Stradbroke Island Historical Museum

15 -17 Welsby Street, Dunwich.
North Stradbroke Island is not just a beautiful paradise;
it also has an amazing history which the museum showcases.
The museum provides people with an opportunity to learn
about the history of North Stradbroke Island, from its
Aboriginal history, to its shipwrecks during the 1800s
and its current mineral sand mining industry.
Open: Wednesdays, Friday and Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm
Cost: Adults $3.30; Children $1.10; Concession $2.20. The museum is a
10 minute walk from the ferry terminal.

Location:

The Dunwich Cemetery is the second oldest cemetery in
Queensland. A walk through provides an insight into the
different people that have stepped on the shores of North
Stradbroke Island and have made it their final resting
place. A trail map that visits all the resting spots of
some of North Stradbroke Island's most influential inhabitants
is available from the Museum, the Stradbroke Island Tourism
office at Dunwich and the Stradbroke Island Holidays office.
The Dunwich cemetery is a 10 minute walk from the ferry
terminal.

Location:
East Coast Road, past Frenchman's Beach at Point Lookout.
The walk starts out as a dirt track which then turns into
a modern wooden boardwalk. During this walk a variety
of marine and bird life can often be spotted. It is also
an ideal vantage point for whale watching between June
- Novewmber. At various locations along the trail, benches
are provided so that you can sit back and enjoy the beautiful
panoramic views. The North Gorge is the perfect location
to watch a sunrise or sunset. It is recommended that people
undertaking the walk follow the designated walking tracks
to ensure personal safety. The walk takes about 20 to
30 minutes.

Under the fig tree in Dunwich, opposite the Museum and
Post office, Fig Tree Art Gallery is a studio gallery
displaying Jen and Ken Stubblety's unique range of contemporary
art featuring painting, prints, and garden sculptures.
Open: Monday - Saturday 10.00am - 6pm. $2.00 donation
is appreciated
