An Introduction to Council
The Ojai Foundation presents An Introduction to Council…
“I believe we can change the world if we start listening to each other. Simple honest human conversation, where we each have a chance to speak, we each feel heard and we each listen well”. – Margaret J Wheatley.
Take your seat in the circle. Relax. Breathe. And now…speak from the heart. Listen from the heart. Speak leanly. Speak spontaneously. Speak only when you have the talking piece.
Council is an ancient way and modern practice that encourages attentive listening and heartfelt, compassionate expression. Council engenders a deep sense of community, respect for one another and all of life. If fully engaged, it is a lifelong learning and a gift to be shared. The practice of Council has roots in every civilization as well as in contemporary organizational management disciplines, progressive schools and any situation where people want to move past small talk.
During this weekend in nature and with each other, we “remember again” what is already in our bones: That true communication involves more listening than speaking, that the voice of the circle can reverberate for each of us, that every person can be simultaneously a great teacher and an eager student. You will leave the training with an understanding of the basic tenets of council, as well as a new way of listening, and the invitation to share what you’ve learned with family, friends, colleagues and community.
